Conductor: James Young
Leader: Cath Cormie
Soloist: Cath Cormie - Violin
PROGRAMME
Rossini: Overture to The Italian Girl in Algiers,
Dvorák: Romance in F Minor for violin
Ravel: Pavanne pour une infante défunte
Ravel: Le Tombeau de Couperin - final movement
Interval
Mendlessohn: 1st Symphony
The varied programme features works written by composers mostly early in their careers. It starts with a typically energetic overture by Rossini and continues with Dvorak’s Romance for Violin and Orchestra which will showcase the very special talents of our leader Cath Cormie. This is followed by orchestrations of two memorial pieces by Ravel originally conceived for piano - the nostalgic Pavane and the lively Rigaudon from Le Tombeau de Couperin. Our concert closes with a very attractive early Symphony written by the prodigy Felix Mendelssohn when just 15 years of age.
